Allegiance: Loyalty to our fellow co-workers.

What does FBO stand for?
Fixed Base Operator or FBO refers to a business that is granted the right, by the airport, to provide aeronautical services. FBO’s are the primary providers to general aviation pilots. The term fixed base operator came from post-World War I era. With the passage of the Air Commerce Act of 1926, pilots and aircraft mechanics were required to become licensed and meet new training requirements. They started to move away from the transient nature of civil aviation of the early 1920s and began to establish permanent businesses on popular airports. Hence becoming fixed base operators.
Do you do anything for kids or adults that are interested in learning more about general aviation?
Absolutely! Bismarck Aero Center is always happy to talk with and give facility tours to kids or adults that are interested in aviation. As ambassadors of the aviation industry, we feel it is our duty to continually educate our community on aviation and the benefits it brings. We have worked with individuals to small classes and summer learning programs to the annual aviation career day, which hosts over 700 5th graders at the Bismarck Airport each year. It all starts with a simple phone call to our marketing department.
I want to be a pilot! Where do I start?
Obtaining your private pilot license is not as hard as you would think. First, check out the requirements on our Flight Instruction page. That will give you a quick overview of the hours and requirements you will need to meet. Then, we will get you in touch with one of our experienced Certified Flight Instructors (CFI). They will step you through the process and pricing for learning to fly. Finally, we work with you and your schedule to set you up on your first lesson.
I am doing a community event or fundraising and would like to know if Bismarck Aero Center would like to be involved?
Bismarck Aero Center and its employees enjoy volunteering and working to help make our community a better place. Though we would like to, we are not able to contribute to all the great causes out there. Our primary focus is working to improve or promote the aviation industry, education (especially aviation education) and our Bismarck/Mandan community. We do make some contributions to other types of causes, but these are our main causes. If you have a good cause that you think meets this criteria, please talk to our marketing department about what Bismarck Aero Center could do to help!
