Avionics Technician

Job Description

Status: Full Time

Summary of Job: Installs, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, removes and replaces aircraft instrument and avionics components and/or systems installed in various aircraft airframes using hand tools, ground support equipment, test equipment, and technical documents in accordance with manufacturers specification and Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • Receive daily work instructions from Lead Avionics Technician.
  • Troubleshoots, inspects, tests and repairs a variety of aircraft avionics or navigation and communication systems in general aviation aircraft.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, relocate, remove, and rewire of existing components, hardware, and wiring harnesses for installation on aircraft to meet manufacturing specifications, FAR’s, and industry standards.
  • Performs bench tests, repairing, or replacing defective components.
  • Know how to install and build wire harnesses.
  • Fabricate wire harnesses, mounting brackets, double plates, and aircraft skin repairs necessary for installation or removal of components on multiple aircraft airframes in accordance with FAA requirements.
  • Ensure aircraft avionics and avionics related equipment inspection and maintenance records are originated and retained for review as needed.
  • Ensure specific equipment and special tools are made available to accomplish the inspection, maintenance, and repair of avionics related components.
  • Ensure technical and regulatory data is maintained.
  • Ensure all appropriate entries have been made and/or transcribed to the aircraft log books and technical logs with respect to the avionics maintenance function and airworthiness status of the aircraft.
  • Ensure that components, parts, and materials, utilized in maintaining aircraft contain release certification or equipment.
  • Evaluate all avionics inspections and avionics maintenance required to correct defect and damages caused by abnormal occurrences.
  • Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Assists bench technicians in the resolution of discrepancies in avionics and instrument components and systems removed from aircraft.
  • Accompanies flight crews to perform in-flight troubleshooting and adjustments and perform preflight evaluations of avionics and instrument systems.
  • Install, replace or adjust filters, light bulbs, ribbons, belts or similar objects.
  • Produce written documents in English with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Tugging and Relocation of Aircraft
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Skill Requirements:

  • MS Office Proficiency.
  • Have strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Associates degree in Avionics or Electronics Required.
  • Prioritization and time management skills.
  • Previous sheet metal, fabrication or related experience preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience in aircraft wiring, avionics, and systems or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of General Aviation experience in troubleshooting and repairing avionics/instrument systems preferred.
  • Must be able to read wiring schematics and drawings. • Must be willing to work on call and occasional overtime.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills and team focus.
  • Ability to read and understand technical data.
  • Move objects weighing less than 50 pounds.
  • Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Must be able to acquire repairman’s certificate.

  • Background Check.

  • FAA Safety Sensitive Random Drug Program.
  • Must be able to obtain TSA security clearance.
  • 40+ hours/week.
